Two people burnt to death in Lakes state
April 3, 2015 (RUMBEK) – Two people were burnt to death in South Sudan’s Lakes state as fears of increasing crimes rates spread across the capital, Rumbek, authorities told Sudan Tribune on Saturday.
Most murder cases were reportedly recorded in the month of March.
Lakes state acting police commissioner, Isaac Mayuom, said murder, rape, looting, and elopement of girls topped police list of crimes recorded in March alone.
“The crime rate was higher in the month of March. Among the top crimes were murder, attacks, rape, looting, girls’ elopement, adultery and threats,” said Manyoum.
He described as unfortunate the situation in Lakes state and urged the central government to help restore public trust in the state administration.
“The public has continuously refused to share security related information with government security agent for the fact that they don’t trust state government administration,” said Manyuom.
He however said the security situation in Rumbek town was stable, unlike outside where youth lay ambushes to counter revenge attacks.
In a separate incident, a group of armed men looted passengers between Awerial and Yirol and burnt their cars to ashes.
The commissioner, however, assured that the police was working hard to restore peace and stability, but urged the communities to cooperate with law enforcers.
