Fire guts Western Bahr Ghazal state market
April 24, 2015 (WAU) – A busy market in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state was burnt to the ground on Friday after being gutted by a heavy fire.
Mapel market is situated in Western Bahr el Ghazal’s Jur River county.
Arkangelo Uchuir, the deputy administrator Mapel payam (district), said 58 shops, majority of which belonged to the Sudanese businessmen, were destroyed.
He however said investigations were underway to establish the cause of the fire outbreak.
Last year, a similar incident occurred in Mapel market when unknown criminal gangs set fire to the same market, causing massive losses to the business communities.
