Warrap parliament summons finance minister
April 28, 2015 (JUBA) – Members of parliament in South Sudan’s Warrap state have summoned the finance minister to appear before the assembly over multiple issues.
According to a parliamentary resolution, Andrea Aguer Ariik is to appear before MPs to answer queries on the 2014 and 2015 annual budgets expenditures.
The acting head of the assembly’s committee for communications, information and public relations, Ariec Mayar Ariec confirmed the minister’s summon by MPs.
There were multiple issues requiring explanations and clarifications from the minister since these are issues that are very important to the citizens of Warrap state, Ariec told Sudan Tribune on Monday.
“Some of the issues requiring the minister to provide explanations were about projects being undertaken in the state capital, Kuacjok, without the knowledge of the house while the source of funding remained unclear to the public and the assembly,” he added.
The minister is also expected brief lawmakers on what his ministry of was doing with the pension funds and the lack of promotion and retirement policy, yet employees continue to pay 10% cut from their salaries monthly towards the pension scheme.
“The minister will also provide answers to questions asking circumstances under which educational grant transfers amounting to 325, 573 and , 878, 233 South Sudanese pounds from the national ministry of education and health meant for counties and were not transferred since the budget was approved,” Ariec further said.
The minister will also discuss issues of companies, which received letters of credit worth $million from the central bank to help buy and transport food items to stabilise rising consumer prices in the state.
Last year, the state assembly passed a budget amounting to SSP 26, 430,580, allocating SSP 12,643,016 to health and SSP 34,687,548 for education with the projections of SSP 73,348,145 for the counties. It is not clear whether these projects were implemented.
