Bashir receives congratulations from world leaders on his election victory
April 28, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s president Omer Hassan al-Bashir has received congratulations on Monday from several leaders on the occasion of his election victory.
The official news agency (SUNA) said the president received phone calls from the Egyptian president Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi and from the Saudi king Salman Bin Abdel-Aziz besides the Saudi defence minister Mohamed Bin Salman.
The Sudanese president also received a phone call from the Ethiopian prime minister Hailemariam Desalegn.
He also received a congratulatory cable from the Emir of Qatar Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, and from Abdalla Bin Hamad Al Thani deputy Emir of Qatar and from Abdalla Bin Nassir Al Thani, the prime minister and minister of interior of Qatar.
The Saudi Crown Prince MugrinBin Abdel-Aziz also congratulated Bashir electoral win and “victories scored by the Armed Forces against rebels in Darfur”, SUNA reported.
Chinese president Xi Jiping in his cable noted “the deep traditional friendship linking Sudan to China as the two countries are considered close partners characterized by the mutual support and confidence as well as the sincere cooperation”.
The cable “affirmed China’s commitment to its policies concerning the development of cooperation and friendship relations with Sudan what ever be, the implications of the regional and international situations”.
The presidential press secretary, Mohamed Hatim Suleiman, said the leaders have congratulated the president elect on his victory wishing him success in his new presidential term
He pointed out that Bashir expressed his thanks and his appreciation for the calls and cables of congratulation, wishing further strengthening of ties between Sudan and those countries.
On Monday, Bashir, 71, won re-election with 94% of the vote in an election boycotted by opposition, extending his nearly three-decade rule for another five years.
