Warrap education minister fired over poor performance: official
May 2, 2015 (RUMBEK) – The recent sacking of the education minister in South Sudan’s Warrap state was due to poor performance, not finance-related, an official said.
Victor Atem was sacked in a decree issued by Warrap state governor, Nyandeng Malek, a move defended by information and communication minister, Paul Dhel Gum.
“The appointment and dismissal of the executive members of the government is a prerogative of the governor as stipulated in the transitional constitution of Warrap state. The governor may or not provide reasons for appointing or dismissing,” said Gum.
The minister further disclosed that this week’s summon of his finance counterpart by the state legislative assembly was not in any way related to scandalous matters.
“The summon of the minister of finance has nothing to do with financial scandal, but he was summoned to explain and clarify on issues related to the ministry of finance to enable the assembly follow the track of service delivery and performance of the ministry in executing the annual budget,” Gum told Sudan Tribune on Friday.
He said the state government was closely working with the judiciary, executive and the legislature to promote good governance.
