Speaking at the occassion, the chief guest, Philip Chol, urged the various youth to adopt peaceful attitudes and approach home affairs with care.

He cautioned the youth to push for peace in Rumbek with critical observations, especially on matters involving revenge.

“Be ambassadors of peace within and around your home state. Peace will always come when there is forgiveness and forgiveness come when there is brotherhood and people forget the past mistake,” Chol told hundreds of youth.

He further added, “Take education that can transform the society.”

Awut Agok, the chairperson of the youth union in Kenya, described the entity as an organisation with a transformational mission.

“Even as we recognise our significant accomplishments, we acknowledge that there is still a great deal to be done. Although the union has altered considerably in size and appearance, we remain as a community-serving institution”, Agok told Sudan Tribune.

“Our fundamental mission, simply stated, is to promote unity. It is a broad and ambitious mission, and it is unique to the youth union. On the communal level, the community serves as a gateway to opportunity,” she stressed.

Rumbek youth union consists of Rumbek North, Rumbek Central and Rumbek East counties, which continuously faces inter-clan clashes.
