EU report constitutes an important step : Sudan FM

KHARTOUM, Aug 10, 2004 (SUNA) — Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail, described as important step the report of the European Union delegation that visited the country recently that there was no genocide in Darfur.

Dr. Ismail pointed out that the report is a fresh support to the stances of the African Union, the Arab League and a number of regional and International organizations.

The Minister said in a statement to the press that Sudan has been following statements of the EU in which there were no direct mentioning to the term of ethnic cleansing nor genocide, saying that the statement of the EU mission was very explicit and direct report.

The Minister explained that the EU statement confirms that the resolution adopted by the US Congress, in considering what is going in Darfur as genocide, was isolated, adding that even the US Administration refused to label the station in Darfur as genocide.
