Adoption of western cultures worries S. Sudanese elders
May 6, 2015 (RUMBEK) – South Sudanese youth should stick to their various cultures and avoid adopting western lifestyles, a renowned elder and politician has advised.
Veteran politician, Agany Aguto made these remarks while addressing a community meeting in the Kenya town of Eldoret on Wednesday.
The one-day community meeting came on the heels of numerous public outcries that South Sudanese adolescent youth have started adopting western cultures and values.
“It’s necessary to create nations in the beauty of cultural diversity,” he Aguto, adding, “don’t feel sorry or regret about where you were born or which tribe you come from it was God, design and prerogative to create you and allow you to be defined by culture.”
According to Aguto, South Sudanese communities strongly believe in diligence, discipline, dedication and respect for other communities as well as neighbours.
“These are some of the values we embrace as community,” he further stressed.
