The decision intervenes virtually one year after relieving and reappointing to diplomatic service his former legal adviser Telar Riing Deng, who was one of the most controversial and powerful aides.

Lawrence Korbany, a trained and practising lawyer, was appointed by a presidential order, according to the broadcast by the state run South Sudan Television (SSTV) on Tuesday.

Korbandy who served for many years as head of the rights commission would now assume his assignment in the new role and functions with immediate effect after taking oath of office.

There was no reason given for his removal and switch and no replacement was appointed to the commission’s position.
