West Kordofan governor orders attacks on Nuba villages, 14 arrested : SPLM-N
May 7, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North (SPLM-N) accused the West Kordofan governor of ordering attacks on two villages and called to released 14 people arrested by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
SPLM-N spokesperson Arnu Nugulti Lodi on Thursday said the governor Ahmed Khamis on 29 April instructed the RSF militia forces in West Kordofan state to attack inhabitants of Finij and Ndjamena villages which are part of the Kasha tribe.
Lodi further said the militiamen looted the market and belongings of civilians, injured six people and arrested 14 villagers who are now detained in the prison of West Kordofan state capital, Al-Fula.
The statement didn’t provide further details about the reason of the attack on the Kasha people who are part of Nuba tribes in the greater Kordofan region.
Since the start of the South Kordofan conflict in June 2013, the Kasha are keen to distance themselves from the ongoing hostilities but also have adopted a neutral position on the clashes between the two pastoral tribes of Misseriya and Mandal who inhabit areas surrounding them.
Lodi called for the immediate release of the detainees and accused the ruling National Congress Party of forcing its leading figures from Nuba Mountains to commit crimes against their people to prove their loyalty to the regime.
“The NCP used to put pressure on its leaders from Nuba and other marginalized areas to commit crimes against their own relatives to prove their loyalty and ensure continuity in their positions,” Lodi said.
In line with the peace agreement of 2005, the West Kordofan had been abolished but the government has been re-established since July 2013. At, the time, the SPLM-N criticised the decision and described it as “dodging responsibility”.
