The initiative was launched in February this year in Duk, one of the counties bordering Garwer and Lou Nuer areas. Duk was chosen to spearhead the peace process in Jonglei since its inhabitants speak both Dinka and Nuer dialects.

However, the process seems on a slow pace since consultative meetings started in February, due to lack of funding, among others.

“The government of Jonglei state has community peace imitative, that has been going on in Duk, but lack backing up from other partners, particular international NGOs and the UN”, said the state health minister during a conference held in Bor on Friday.

“And we are actually shouting that the co-existence of this communities will peace stability in South Sudan”, he stressed.

The United Nations in the country (UNMISS) under its current mandate, has stopped the support they were been initially offering to South Sudanese, people including supporting the sick and pregnant mothers, by providing air services for emergencies.

The government, however, called on international non-governmental organisations to support the state initiative, which seeks to bring everlasting peace in the region.
