S. Sudanese artist appointed youth minister in Unity state
May 13, 2015 (BENTIU) – A renowned South Sudanese artist has been appointed one of the ministers in the oil-rich Unity state, according to a decree issued on Tuesday.
Lam Tungwar, a former national youth union president, was appointed youth and sports minister in a decree issued by caretaker governor, Joseph Monytuil.
Reacting to the appointment, Lam said he was determined to tackle problems facing the youth, who constitute the bulk of the population.
Taker Riak Dong was appointed minister for local government while Gatkuoth Chuol takes over the public service ministry.
A separate decree also saw Wal Yach appointed new commissioner of Leer county while Salaam Maluit was taken to Rubkotna county.
Until now, it remains unclear as to what prompted the caretaker governor to carry out a reshuffle and appoint new officials in office.
CITIZENS REACT
Malual Bol, a student in Cavendish university of Uganda welcomed decision made by the governor by appointing the new officials.
“I congratulate the caretaker governor of Unity state as well as newly appointed ministers and commissioners. I want to urge the newly appointed commissioners and ministers to put their civilians’ interest first before personal interests,” he said.
Bol, however, urged the new state ministers to prioritise service delivery to citizens.
Meanwhile, some officials criticised the new reshuffle, which comes hardly five months after the governor made changes in the state. Last year, an ex-state adviser on security, Maluk Matai fell out with Monytuil over political differences. Matai accused the governor of failing to mobilise youth against rebellion.
