Two Sudanese foreign ministry contractors accused of passing classified info to US agent

May 14, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – Two contractors working for the Sudanese foreign ministry are facing trial after the government accused them of providing a Unites States intelligence officer with classified data.

The chief investigator in the case told the judge on Thursday that the information leaked poses a danger to Sudan’s national and political security.

He further said that the records passed to the foreign agent could endanger lives and pave the road for more infiltration.

The pair have reportedly met the US officer identified as John Foehr in the United Arab Emirates and one of them was receiving a monthly stipend in return for the data.

But they refuted the investigator’s statements in court with one of them asserting that he handed over data system and not a database to the US officer.

Some reports stated that the data contained various cables between Sudanese officials and other countries including Libya, Cairo, Qatar and United Kingdom.

The two men are charged with conspiracy to commit espionage and unauthorized disclosure of classified info.
