S. Sudan information official quits, accuses minister of nepotism

May 15, 2015 (JUBA) – A South Sudanese official at the ministry of information and broadcasting has resigned, accusing minister Michael Makuei Lueth of nepotism and mess.

Clement Aturjong Kuot, deputy director for government’s official website, claimed Lueth had allegedly turned the public institution into a family entity.

He accused minister Lueth of having allegedly moved and promoted relatives who had no media background and experience to higher civil service positions in the ministry.

“The ministry of information and broadcasting became a place of no transparency. For instance, with no godfather, you cannot go anywhere,” Kuot told Sudan Tribune.

One of the reasons why he resigned, Kuot said, was that the information ministry’s new undersecretary, Jacob Alier has no media background to serve in such a position.

“My skills are wasted in the ministry of information and broadcasting and it is good to go where I can serve people of South Sudan and humanity,” stressed Kuot.

He further decried the general poor performance at the ministry due to “discriminatory” actions by minister Lueth to work in accordance with the rules and procedures guiding the running of the affairs of the information institution in the country.
