British council launches youth leadership training in Juba

June 11, 2015 (JUBA) – The United Kingdom’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities launched on Wednesday a project for leadership and learning for the Horn of Africa (HOLLA) to strengthen youth leaders in South Sudan.

HOLLA, in statement, said the project would support young people in South Sudan, Ethiopia and Sudan to become active participants in national and local development.

The project is funded by the European Union and managed by the British Council. Other implementors are the Institute for the Development of Civil Society (South Sudan), the regional center for training and development (Sudan) and Initiative Africa (Ethiopia).

“The two year project is expected to benefit thirty youth leaders and help train up to 716 young people to become role models in their communities and contribute to community cohesion with at least 20 youth targeted projects plans,” partly reads HOLLA’s release.

“We empower young women to play a significant role in the development of networks and institutions for community cohesion. Forty per cent of the targeted beneficiaries across all areas of project implementation are women and girls,” it further added.
