W. Bahr el Ghazal health minister warns against Cholera outbreak
June 29, 2015 (WAU) – The health minister in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state lssac Rial has urged the public to be cautious over the recent Cholera outbreak in the capital, Juba.
“The ministry of health has set up awareness task forces committee in the state to update public about the outbreak of the disease,” Rial told citizens during a one-day conference held in the state capital, Wau over the weekend.
“The awareness centres have been established in Wau town throughout the municipal council to prevent any infections especially among the school children and at overcrowded markets,” said the health minster.
“Our people must to follow hygienically system, wash hands with soap or ash after visiting toilets and before eating,” he added.
The minister advised the population to ensure they use clean water to protect themselves. He further urged the public to report any suspected cases of the disease.
Rial, however, said they had not yet received any reported Cholera case in the state, yet there was need for the ministry to put in place preventive measures throughout the state.
“This includes the distribution of water chlorine to each and every family for safety drinking water treatment,” said Rial, adding “Water must be treated or warmed before drinking”.
More than 20 people have died since an out beak of Cholera was declared in Juba last week.
