North Darfur governor vows to wage harsh war against criminals

July 2, 2015 (EL-FASHER) – North Darfur governor vowed to wage a harsh war on armed gangs and criminals and instructed security forces to strictly implement the law in a way to restore the state authority.

“We will strike with an iron fist on the criminals who threaten the security of the citizen and stability” in North Darfur said the new governor Abdel Wahid Youssef in a celebration organised at El-Fasher Grand Mosque on Thursday.

He added he issued a series of preliminary decisions that will be followed by stringent measures. He further called on the state citizens to collaborate with the security services, by reporting crimes and not to accommodate criminals.

“A criminal has no tribe or a land, a criminal is a criminal,” he said.

A North Darfur state official told Sudan Tribune that on Thursday police in El-Fasher market opened fire on a vehicle for not complying with their demand to stop.

In a bid to restore security, the security forces patrol the streets of the North Darfur capital and confiscate unlicensed motorcycles and cars including militia’s vehicles.

At the beginning of the security campaign, security forces exchanged fire with the militiamen because the latter refused to observe instructions like not holding weapons in the town, not wearing a kadamool (a turban which covers the face) or driving tinted glasses vehicles .

The governor stressed in his speech that these measures are directed against criminals and not target specific tribe or category of population.

He said his government needs to re-establish security before to address issues related to the welfare of the state citizens and development.
