Opposition party calls on president Kiir to remove Bahr el Ghazal governors
July 16, 2015 (JUBA) – As South Sudanese president Salva Kiir is expected to reshuffle his government soon, an opposition party leader of the United Democratic Salvation Front (UDSF) from Western Bahr el Ghazal state said three governors from greater Bahr el Ghazal region should be removed from their positions, criticizing them for failure.
UDSF-Main Stream secretary general, Juma Zackaria Deng, said for example the Western Bahr el Ghazal state governor, Rizik Zackaria Hassan, remained a symbol of impunity who divided the people of the state along ethnic lines since he came to power in 2010.
Hassan, he said, created a political conflict which disunited the people of Western Bahr el Ghazal state in the legislative assembly, at the executive and in the ruling party (SPLM).
“In Wau, many citizens of Western Bahr el Ghazal state remain in exile, some leave in capital Juba while others in different parts of the world due to political instability and insecurity imposed on them by governor Rizik in the state,” Deng said.
He added that the state had never been stable to determine it route on development since governor Rizik has been allegedly targeting individuals forgetting to focus on development. He also criticized him for recently extending his tenure in office.
Citizens, he said, were however silent to protest because they feared repercussions and simply choose to remain silent.
“Western Bahr el Ghazal state people including the SPLM political party members where he came from are tired of a selfish governor like Rizk,” he said.
While in Lakes state, communities have been allegedly calling on president Kiir also to remove the military caretaker Matur Chut Dhuol and to replace him with anyone who will end the long inter-communal revenge and cattle raiding in the region.
Meanwhile, Warrap state businessmen and opposition members have been calling on president Kiir to remove governor Nyandeng Malek on similar charges.
In Warrap state, Morris Mabior, a secretary for Warrap Workers Union demanded removal of governor Nyandeng Malek due to her failure in addressing concern of the state citizens’ basic needs and quelling down the rising inter-communal conflicts over cattle and lands.
Mabior blamed governor Nyandeng for imposing unlawful arrest of the state citizens who are opposing her style of leadership.
He said Nyandeng failed in her leadership accusing her of long absenting her self from the state duty several times.
