Lakes state deputy assembly speaker resigns
July 22, 2015 (RUMBEK) – The deputy speaker of the legislative assembly in South Sudan’s Lakes state, Enock Nhial has resigned over what he described a “unwritten policy changes” in the institution.
The deputy speaker’s resignation, sources told Sudan Tribune, was part of a power sharing deal between eight counties of Lakes state.
Nhial, however, appealed to members of the public and government to promote peace and unity in the state and surrounding areas.
It is largely believed that as the greater Yirol counties of Yirol East, Yirol West and Awerial controlled the assembly speakership position, while the governorship would be for greater counties of Rumbek East, Rumbek Central and Rumbek North.
The deputy speaker position automatically goes to Cueibet county and Wulu county would be represented in specialised committees.
Meanwhile the speaker of the assembly, Dhieu Takping, accepted his deputy’s resignation, stressing that the new changes would be initiated in Lakes state.
