Darfur problem is internal issue, says Muslim World League
KHARTOUM, Aug 13, 2004 (SUNA) — Drafur problem is an internal issue and should be resolved by the Sudanese themselves without intervention of foreign circles, said Dr. Abdallah bin Abdel-Muhsin Al Turky, Secretary General of Muslim World League.
A delegation representing the League has visited South and North Darfur States where they met with the people and handed humanitarian assistances, said Dr. Al Turky on Thurday in a press conference here.
The League is planning to adopt a strategy with other Islamic organizations operating in humanitarian domain. The Muslim world is satisfied over peace efforts and dialogue in Sudan, he went on.
The organization is placing hope on the upcoming meeting between Sudan government and Darfur rebels in Abuja this month, he said.
On the other hand, the Muslim World League has regretted exaggerations by some international media about the situation in Darfur.
In a press release issued on a visit of the League delegates to Darfur, the organization has noted to the danger of such exaggerations and exploitation of the issue to realize political and economic gains.
Utilizing Darfur incidents as a conflict between Arab and Africans, who are all Muslims, will just serve international Zionism and the enemies of the Islamic nation and will enable those evils to slip into Darfur under humanitarian pretexts, said the release.
The release has necessitated supporting Sudan government to achieve security, return of the displaced persons to their home areas and implement development projects in the area.
The League has urged Sudanese people especially Darfur citizens to consider surrounding threats aiming to undermine Sudan’s unity.
