Wednesday’s attack on a village near Bor town reportedly involved several gunmen, whose identities could not easily be established.

The incident occurred in the same home where suspected Murle criminals abducted three children in July this year, eyewitnesses said.

Those wounded were transferred to a health facility at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) within the state capital, Bor.

State authorities have not officially reacted to the incident, while Sudan Tribune’s attempt to get comments from the police was futile.

Meanwhile the Twic East county commissioner, Dau Akoi has decried the deteriorating security and rising cases of cattle thefts in the area.

Last week, he said, unknown armed criminals attacked Pathiang village in Twic East county, disappearing with nine heads of cattle.

“At night, they came and attacked one man’s home, killed the wife and wounded the husband before they went away with nine heads of cattle. People are now scared, due to increasing number of insecurity cases in the area,” the commissioner said.

A separate incident at Padieng village in Nyuak payam reportedly saw unconfirmed numbers of animals stolen by unknown attackers.

“In this incident, gunshots were heard and all the people ran to that direction to rescue the cattle. Until now, these people had not come back”, said Akoi.

“We suspected the attackers to be criminals from Murle. The community of Murle should help us in tracing these cattle. I know these are criminals from Gumuruk, Kubal county in Pibor,” he added.

Akoi urged the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) administrator, David Yauyau to assist in recovering the stolen animals.
