Uganda’s internal affairs minister dies in Dubai

September 12, 2015 (KAMPALA) – Uganda’s internal affairs minister, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima is dead, a spokesman for the government, Ofwono Opondo has confirmed.

Nyakairima, 56, died in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) as he retuned to Uganda from South Korea on Saturday.

The interior ministry had earlier tweeted, “We regret to announce the death of Gen Aronda Nyakairima who’s been Minister-Internal Affairs. Details will follow”. It did not, however, elaborate further.

A former military chief of staff, the deceased was one of the 10 army representives in Uganda’s national Parliament. He previously served as an assistant director for Uganda’s military intelligence.
