Mathou Matur Muorter was reportedly killed as he took bath at a water point in Bar-majok on Friday night, but his suspected killers were still at large.

A brother to the deceased, Maker Matur Muorter, confirmed the headteacher’s death, adding that efforts were underway to track those who carried out the killing.

Mathou was head of Bar-majok primary school for over four years, his brother said.

“Yes my brother Mathou Matur Muorter was serving as headmaster for four years. He was killed on Friday night while taking bath with his colleague on Bar-majok water hand pump. We were informed [about] who carried out this killing, but we are not going to revenge at this stage,” said Maker.

“We have decide to allow the state government to tell us who killed my brother,” he added.

A local police personnel at Pan-awac post said all efforts to arrest the suspects were underway and security organs have been directed to ensure they were brought to book.

“We are working tirelessly to bring that man who killed the headmaster to face justice, our security units are assigned and action will justify their work in bringing the suspect to book,” said Moses Majok.

Lakes state has continued operating as lawless state since the appointment of military caretaker governor, Maj-Gen Matur Chut Dhuol whom the public, traditional chiefs and intellectuals claim has allegedly failed in quelling down insecurity in the region.

Dhuol was appointed in 2012 to replace his democratically-elected predecessor, Chol Tong Mayay.

Several calls to remove Dhuol have, however, been ignored by President Salva Kiir and citizens have largely refused to share any insecurity information with security agents operating in Lakes state, which makes it difficult to investigate murder cases in the area.
