Sudanese army bombs and shells rebel-held areas in S. Kordofan: SPLM-N

September 13, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement -North (SPLM-N) has accused the Sudanese army of bombing and shelling rebel controlled areas in South Kordofan.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the SPLM-N spokesperson Arnu Ngutulu Lodi said that a Sudanese army Mig jet fighter dropped three bombs on Um Serdiba area in Um Dorain County of South Kordofan.

He added that the raid which took place in the early morning caused significant damage to agriculture farms, and panic among the civilians but there were no human casualties.

In a separate development the Sudanese army, according to Lodi, shelled Julud area south west of Dilling. he added that the long-range missiles (Shahab) were launched from inside Dilling city.

On August 20, in a speech before the general assembly of the national dialogue, Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir said he is ready to declare a two-month ceasefire in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states and Darfur region and renewed his offer of amnesty for the rebel who are willing to join the national dialogue.

These attacks are the first to be announced by the rebel group since al-Bashir’s declaration. But Lodi said the army since the 20th of August carried out several attacks on the SPLM-N-held areas.

”It is no longer a secret to anyone the media propaganda, NCP regime exercises to divert attention away from the ongoing atrocities and crimes against the Sudanese people,” he said.

The Sudanese army spokesperson was not available for comment on these accusations.

The African Union Peace and Security Council renewed its call for the Sudanese government to participate in an inclusive pre-dialogue meeting to discuss issued related to the internal process. But Khartoum said can only meet the rebel groups and refused the participation of opposition political parties.
