Warrap state governor appoints deputy after consultations
September 13, 2015 (JUBA)- The newly-appointed caretaker governor of Warrap state, Akec Tong Aleu, has appointed his deputy after days of leadership consultations.
Abraham Gum Makuac in the new deputy governor, according to an order issued by Aleu.
Pesident Salva Kiir appointed Aleu to succeed ex-governor, Nyandeng Malek in August.
The latest development puts to an end the stiff political campaign and lobbying for the position among politicians from the area in which the candidate was expected to come.
Local officials told Sudan Tribune that Makuac, presently in charge of officers’ affairs in the army’s 3rd division headquarters in Wunyiik, Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, warmly welcomed his appointment and pledged his willingness to take up the new assignment.
The new Warrap deputy governor is expected to be officially sworn in next week.
Makuac who hails from Gogrial East county was reportedly picked from a list of candidates, including former education minister, Victor Atem Atem, former Gogrial East county commissioner, Akot Lual among others from the area with interests in the post.
