The legislature applauded the appointment of army’s Colonel Abraham Gum Makuac as the new deputy governor of the state. The new official fills the position which became vacant after the former deputy, Akec Tong Aleu, was elevated by presidential order to a position of caretaker governor, succeeding his predecessor, Nyandeng Malek whom president Kiir ousted from her position through the executive order.

Ariech Mayar Ariech, deputy head of parliamentary committee responsible for information told Sudan Tribune on Monday that the approval of the deputy governor received no objection from members.

“The appointment of deputy governor was approved unanimously by the members of parliament. Nobody opposed it. We now expect he would be sworn in soon, may be tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. I don’t know when exactly he would be sworn in and assume his duties but what I know is that it would be within this week,” Ariech told Sudan Tribune on Monday from Kuacjok town, capital of Warrap state.

The legislator said he hoped the governor will now form his cabinet after the appointment and the approval of his deputy by the state legislative assembly.
