Egypt pledges $6.5 for animal, fisheries projects in South Sudan
September 18, 2015 (WAU) – The Egyptian Ambassador to South Sudan, Ayman El Gamal, on Thursday signed 6.5 million dollars deal project on animals production and fisheries industries in Western Bahr el Ghazal state’s capital, Wau.
The move came in the wake of last week’s visit to the state capital by two teams from the embassy of Egypt in Juba to discuss with Western Bahr el Ghazal state government details of the deal. The two parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) paving way forward on the two project’s deal, although details on the MoU have not been availed to the press.
Ambassador El Gamal said the project will start in the next six months and that the experts team on preparation will be in Wau next month for construction of the project sites.
“The project that we have approved [and] signed today… one for fisheries, the amount of budget for it is about 1.5 million dollars that would be double to 3 million dollars, the other project is for livestock production and milk production will be 5 million dollars,” said the ambassador.
“Next month, there will be a technical expert team who will be coming to start the preparation of the building materials and so that the project starts up implementation…within six months to
one year,” he said.
The deal was signed on behalf of the state government by minister of agriculture, Michael Madut Chan, and on behalf of the Egyptian government by Ambassador El Gamal.
South Sudan is potentially rich in livestock and fisheries but the resources have not been tapped, with tens of millions of cattle mainly used for pride.
