S. Sudan parliament summon ministers on insecurity matters
September 19, 2015 (JUBA) -Members of South parliament have summoned the country’s defence and security ministers to explain the armed confrontations between government forces armed the opposition troops, despite a permanent ceasefire by the rival leaders after the signing of the internationally-backed regional brokered peace deal.
Those summoned include defence minister, Kuol Manyang, his national security counterpart in the office of the president, Isaac Mbotu Mamur and the acting internal affairs minister, Augustino Jaddallah.
The trio are expected to provide detailed security briefings to lawmakers on recent security developments in the country.
“We are supposed to be interacting with the minister of defence of course, over concerns relating to recent security developments in Central Equatoria state, Unity state and Upper Nile as well as the increased criminal offences across the country”, Samuel Duwar, head of the parliamentary committee on defence, security and public order, said.
He added, “As parliament we feel extremely happy that our forces moved very fast to intervene where police forces have been overstretched,” he added on Saturday.
Duwar said parliament was concern about the increasing and rapidly spreading conflict to areas, which have enjoyed a relative peace in the country since the conflict started
“To us as representatives of the people and as a nation and government elected by the people to take charge of the affairs of our country, we are so much interested in the safety of our people”, the legislator further told Sudan Tribune.
