Two children abducted in South Sudan’s Jonglei state
September 19, 2015(BOR) – Authorities in Twic East county of South Sudan’s Jonglei state have reported the loss of twins to suspected abductors from Murle ethnic tribe.
“The attackers, when they attacked the village, the detoured the members of the village [armed youth], they took the twins boys of eleven years, from there, the youth tried to run after them but they didn’t get them because it was already night. There was no death casualties”, the commissioner of Twic East, Dau Akoi told Sudan Tribune Saturday
Dau said the greater Bor counties had received message from some elements inside Pibor that the youth from Pibor had dispersed heading to greater Bor this month.
Dau suspected elements from this group to be culprits of the most recent abductions.
“Before this week, we received information from reliable sources from Pibor and from Gumuruk that younger generation of Murle, had dispersed and they were coming toward greater Bor, so we suspected that these are the youth of Murle who took the children,” he said.
Lack of cell phone connections in Gumuruk and Likuangole counties in Pibor made it difficult to coordinate security issues with greater Bor counties communities, said Dau.
Jody Jonglei, the state minister of information and communications revealed that peace would be achieved once Jonglei state sends delegations composed of commissioners, and paramount chiefs to meet their Pibor counterparts to resolve their differences and find a permanent solution. Although this plan was delayed, it was still to be pursued.
“The plan hasn’t died out, it will be effective when we go, we will engage ourselves on boarder supervision, the communities will be engaged, the conference between the communities will be done to resolve their issues”, the minister told Sudan Tribune.
Several other cases of killings and abducted have been reported around Bor and Twic East county, with the sole suspects being criminals from the Murle ethnic tribe.
