Sudan’s FM to meet with US Secretary of State in New York
September 23, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s foreign minister Ibrahim Ghandour said he will meet with the United States Secretary of State, John Kerry on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Sudan’s top diplomat is due to head his country’s delegation to the meetings of the UNGA and the UN Sustainable Development Summit.
In a press statement Tuesday, Ghandour said he will address the UNGA on behalf of the president Omer al-Bashir on October 3rd, pointing he would also address the UN Sustainable Development Summit on September 27 th.
Ghandour stressed that Sudan will take part in the meetings of the African foreign ministers at the UN Security Council to promote the African Union (AU) decision ordering member states not to cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Sudan’s top diplomat said his speech before the UNGA will deal with three main issues including the situations in Sudan and the region, reform of the international system and the future of international cooperation particularly with regard to international security and peace.
Ghandour added that he will meet with 21 foreign ministers from the various continents to discuss bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.
He pointed out that he would also meet the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, to follow up on the implementation of the outcome of their meeting in Washington and the recent meetings with the US special envoy to Sudan and South Sudan, Donald Booth, in Khartoum.
Ghandour added that his meeting with Kerry comes at the behest of Khartoum, expecting it to take place sometime between 26 to 28 September.
The top diplomat said that he would also meet during his nine-day visit to New York with the UN Secretary General, Chairman of the African Union Commission, the Arab League’s Secretary General, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Secretary General of the Non-Aligned Movement.
He also indicated that he will participate in meetings of the Arab, African, the Islamic and Non-Aligned Movement blocs.
