Sudan’s FM meets several counterparts in New York

September 28, 2015 (NEW YORK) – Sudan’s foreign minister Ibrahim Ghandour has met with several of his counterparts on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the UN Sustainable Development Summit in New York.

In a press release Monday, Sudan’s foreign ministry said that Ghandour met with foreign ministers from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Netherlands and Italy, pointing he discussed with them issues of common concern and ways for promoting cooperation and ties between Sudan and their countries.

Ghandour also discussed with his counterparts some global issues including wars and illegal immigration.

According to the press release, Ghandour briefed his counterparts on the recent political developments including the national dialogue and efforts to achieve peace and stability within Sudan and the region in general, pointing to Sudan’s views on the regional and international issues.

Sudan’s top diplomat took part in the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers which discussed the Palestinian issue and the Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque besides the support of the legitimate government in Yemen and the Libyan peace process.

Last March, joined the Saudi-led military coalition against Houthi rebels in Yemen who are accused by Riyadh of being a proxy to Iran in the region.

Ghandour also participated in the meeting of the open-ended committee of the African foreign ministers which discussed ways for dealing with the UN Security Council with regard to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The press release pointed that the African foreign ministers called for the unification of the African position behind the African Union (AU) decisions ordering member states not to cooperate with the ICC.

It is worth mention that the Sudanese president Omer Hassan al- Bashir was indicted by the ICC in 2009 over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Darfur conflict.
