Upper Nile new cabinet takes oath of office after appointment
September 30, 2015 (JUBA)- A new cabinet in South Sudan’s oil producing state of Upper Nile state has taken oath of office after the caretaker governor Chol Thon, issued a gubernatorial order, dissolving the entire cabinet of his predecessor, Simon Kun Puoc.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Sudan Tribune on Wednesday the new information Yor Akec said the cabinet has taken oath of office, pledging commitment to mobilizing their respected communities to help the implementation.
The new governor is a high ranking military officer who hails from the Dinka community in Bailiet County which is one of the areas badly affected by the 20-month long conflict pitting rebel fighters allied to the former vice president, Riek Machar and pro-government forces .
Thon himself is not expected to take long in power as the position of the state governor has been earmarked to be occupied by an opposition nominee in accordance with the August Peace Agreement.
He remains active in the army but it remains unclear what his next assignment would be after his replacement has been made.
The new changes he made after becoming a caretaker governor had sent home seven former ministers and moved Peter Hoth Tuach from the ministry of information to the state ministry of youth, culture and sports. Tuach was replaced with Yor Akec, a former commissioner of Akoka County.
Finance minister Ayong Lual Awer is also one of the officials affected by the new changes and was replaced with Deng Akuei Kak, a former commissioner of Renk County. Several other officials were also reappointed but moved to different institutions.
