Viva water company halts operation in W. Bahr el Ghazal state

October 10, 2015 (WAU)- Scarcity of hard currency has forced Viva water bottling company operating in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state to cease operation.

Several residents told Sudan Tribune that the company has since last week not been operating after its management failed to access hard currency to support its production.

“We have administratively decided to close down for all, we are moving our activities to Juba as per now, we will not be open again in Wau,” said an official, who asked not to be identified.

A senior company official, however, declined to speak about the hard currency issue.

Some staff said the water company has been undergoing a major problem in accessing hard currency for buying its manufacturing plastic materials from outside the country.

The company has been supplying most neighbouring Warrap, Lakes, Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Western Equatoria state, in addition to hotels and government departments.
