Gunmen kill woman in the capital of Central Darfur state

October 12, 2015 (ZALIGEI) -A woman was shot dead and several members of her family were seriously injured in a shooting at a house in Zaligei the capital of Central Darfur state.

Local authorities didn’t provide details about the nature of the attack or the identity of the assailants who were wearing military uniform.

The security forces succeeded to stop two attackers after a pursuit in the streets of the neighbourhood of Dredek.

Eyewitnesses told Sudan Tribune that her husband and three of their children were seriously injured by the shooting and were transported to Zalingei Hospital.

They further said two gunmen were arrested after the security forces quickly surrounded the area after the shooting.

They said murder and robbery rates are sharply rinsing in the state and explained that by the draconian security measures implemented in the neighbouring South Darfur to stop criminal activities.

A spokesperson for the displaced persons in the town Elshafei Abdallah, warned that the security situation in the area surrounding the camp are deteriorating and urged to take the needed steps to protect the residents of IDPS camps.

Abdallah also urged the hybrid peacekeeping mission, UNAMID, to increase its patrols to protect women and girls when they go outside the camps to collect firewood.
