The peaceful procession started from the peace grounds to the ministerial premises.

During the march, Raga county officials urged their Jur River and Wau county counterparts to support the move for Raga to be a separate entity from Lol state.

“You two counties which makes up Wau state should stand with the people of Raga on our right to become a separate state,” Lucaino Thomas, a Raga county official said.

Meanwhile the state governor, Rizik Zakariah Hassan lauded the residents of Western Bahr el Ghazal for showing support to the president’s decree on creating new states.

“Through your demonstration, this means that the entire population of Western Bahr el Ghazal State are citizens who know what the government is doing for them,” he said.

The president, Hassan stressed, created new states to bring towns closer to the people and that additional states will spur development in various part of the nation.

South Sudan cabinet approved the expansion of states to 28 during Tuesday’s extraordinary meeting chaired by President Kiir. The proposal is expected before lawmakers soon.
