Registration for state assets begin n S. Sudan’s Jonglei state
October 15, 2015 (BOR) – The government in South Sudan’s Jonglei started registering assets that are targeted for sharing among the four newly created states in the region.
The committee, now headed by the minister of local government, Peter Wall Athiu, supported by his physical infrastructure counterpart, John Amuor, among others, would complete identification and registration of assets in the capital, Bor.
The state minister of information, Jody Jonglei confirmed told reporters that asset registration of vehicles, computers, budget, furniture and workers had started in Bor.
“The four states distribution of physical and movable assets has just started today [Wednesday],” the minister said.
“The governor has just formed the committee to access how many vehicles, how many chairs and other furniture”, said Jody, further adding, “We don’t think that somebody will decline to handout the vehicle because the vehicles are for the government”.
Privatized vehicles are not included in the list of vehicles to be registered, as passed by the council of ministers in the resolutions of its extraordinary sitting last month, he said.
“What is there, the owners must complete the payment this time for them to own the vehicles or else the ownership will change. Majority had paid some money, but they must complete their payment this time”, added the information minister.
The state has at least 48 old tractors, including 30 donated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and 18 brought on loan by government years back.
Jonglei state had a share of 60 more tractors from the 1,000 tractors donated by South Sudan president Salva Kiir this year. However, these tractors are yet to arrive in the state.
The committee did not reveal if the tractors would be registered for asset sharing as well.
According to the committee, assets owned by the counties will be targeted for sharing.
