Sudan’s ruling party and Chinese communist party sign joint protocol

October 16, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) have signed a joint economic and political protocol which determines the priorities of the joint cooperation and the related issues.

China has been Sudan’s largest foreign investor particularly in oil and telecommunications after western firms shunned the East African nation due to conflicts and sanctions.

The protocol was signed by the NCP’s deputy chairman of the political sector, Amira al-Fadil, and the CPC’s state minister of foreign affairs in the presence of the NCP’s deputy chairman, Ibrahim Mahmoud Hmaid, and the secretary-general of the Council of African Political Parties (CAPP) Nafie Ali Nafie.

In an interview with the Chinese TV in Beijing, Hamid has underscored the depth and strength of the Sudanese Chinese relations, saying it is evolving in all domains particularly at political and economic levels.

He said the two nations have developed strategic ties that are based upon the exchange of the joint interests for the benefit of the two peoples.

Last month, the Sudanese president Omer Hassan al-Bashir participated in China’s celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

During the visit, several joint agreements have been signed covering agricultural technology and manufacturing, industrial cooperation, mining and free-trade zones.
In December 2014, Sudan and China signed a $700 million loan agreement to fund the construction of the New Khartoum International Airport.

The new terminal and its facilities, which will be built by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), will receive over 7.5 million passengers annually.
