Sudan 2nd VP travels to Russia for talks on economic cooperation

October 17, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese 2nd Vice President Hassabo Mohamed Abdel Rahman flew on Sunday to the Russian capital of Moscow in the first high-level official visit in ten years.

The minister of Minerals Ahmed Mohammed Sadiq al-Karuri said in press statements from the Sudanese Embassy in Moscow that the visit is “historic and important” and a starting point in strengthening bilateral relations and political, economic and trade integration.

Al-Karuri said the move was a culmination of activities and exchange of visits between the two countries in the past period including ones by foreign minister Ibrahim Ghandour and parliament speaker Ibrahim Ahmed Omer.

He added that the Russian side welcomed the visit of the 2nd VP as a gesture that demonstrates Sudan’s keenness on developing relations.

The Sudanese official said that a number of Russian companies have shown interest in investing in Sudan, and that the 2nd VP will sign a number of agreements and MoU’s in the field of oil and energy, health, education, agriculture, mining and railway.
