Marial Wau community want caretaker governor’s position
October 20, 2015 (WAU) – The Marial Wau community in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state are demanding the new Wau governor be someone from their territory.
“We the community of the Marial Wau, take this opportunity to thankvH.E Salva Kiir Mayardit, the president of the Republic of South Sudan for the brilliant order of re-dividing South Sudan into 28 states in general and Wau state in particular,” the community said in a petition letter sent to President Salva Kiir.
“Your Excellency, we feel that it is a right time to put before you this request of the community of the area, this community since Western Bahr el Ghazal state was established has never been given a chance of governorship, up to the time of the present division of another state,” adds the letter, a copy of which Sudan Tribune obtained.
The community said it was the right time to be given an opportunity to govern Wau state.
“In the end of our petition, we thank president for having translated the vision and mission of the SPLM ruling party of taking towns to the people,” they further stressed.
Last week, Wau state youth demanded that someone from Jur River county becomes the new governor.
According to President Kiir’s decree, Wau and Jur River counties will form Wau state with it headquarter within Wau town while the present Raga county now becomes Lol state.
