Eastern Sudan village relocates due to heavy rains

October 25, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The deputy governor of the Red Sea state in Eastern Sudan, Sidi Adam, has directed to relocate the entire population of the ”Shediab” village in the state due to heavy flood that hit the area.

The heavy flood has led to partial damage in the main high road linking Khartoum with port Sudan and damage many properties and houses in the “Shediab” area in Haya locality.

The independent parliamentarian member of Haya Ahmed Mohamed Yahya tod Akhir Lhza newspaper that the flood and heavy rain which hit the locality in the past two days led to the collapse of 443 houses, calling on the national legislative assembly and humanitarian groups to provide the needed assistances to the affected people.

Adam told Alshorooq TV that the area has witnessed repeated floods in the past period due to the water overflowing from the river bed.

He said that the emergency committee of the state has addressed the situation by providing the medical drugs and the other assistances besides the maintenance of the highway linking Khartoum with Port Sudan to allow the flow of traffic in good conditions.

He further hailed the popular efforts of the area residents for providing the needed help to the affected persons.

In Khartoum, Sudanese minister of interior Esmat Abdel Rahman has ordered the concerned authorities to address the situation in the areas of Haya, Tahamyam and Shediab hit by the floods in the past two days.

The director of the Sudanese civil defence Major general Hashim Hussein Abdel Magid told reporters in Khartoum that 443 families have been affected by the flood, besides the partial damage caused to the agricultural sector, livestock and railways linking Khartoum with Port Sudan.

According to the official news agency SUNA, authorities in the Red Sea state delivered Sugar, flour, corn and rice to the floods-affected persons.

In Haya locality, the civil defence authorities provided tents for the housing of the affected people besides the deployment of
health care teams to take the necessary preventive measures to combat epidemics.
