Three arrested over anti-government activities in W. Bahr el Ghazal

October 25, 2015 (WAU) – Raga county authorities in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state said they arrested three government officials, including a school teacher for allegedly mobilising youth and students to join the armed opposition movement (SPLM-IO).

The county commissioner, James Benjamin Marodoma, said the trio recruited into rebellion school children aged between 12-14 years, which was considered unlawful.

“These people are under our detention. They will be sent to court to face the law because they are interfering with our government duties by recruiting young children in the army,” Marodoma told Sudan Tribune Sunday.

“Because these children were at school and below ages, we the authorities in the county have decided to release them and sent them back to their parents last Friday. We shall take possible actions by sending those officials involved to court face the law,” he added.

The 13 released youth and students, the commissioner said, were being mobilised and allegedly promised monthly payments of SSP 2,000 (about $105), if they joined rebellion.
