“If the peace process goes well, we will move another step, the step of dividing and sharing assets. After that formation of new states goes ahead,” he told his cabinet and ruling party (SPLM) members Tuesday.

Governor Hassan also wondered why the nation’s citizens had resorted to speculations over positions ever since President Salva Kiir issued the 2 October decree.

“For this issue am saying there are some states that have already started up with that, after we came out in a meeting with the president last week, they immediately started doing so, but this is not yet the time,” he warned.

According to Hassan, only assets like vehicles can be shared, not roads, stressing that appointment of new the state governors would be Kiir’s role.

“After that, [the person] who will appoint governors will be the president of the Republic [of South Sudan]. Your curriculum vitae will determine your appointment as governor, but if you proclaim yourself here within local markets and everywhere as governor, you may be in a crisis,” he said.
