Opposition PLP warns of peaceful protest over economic meltdown
November 2, 2015 (WAU) – The leader of South Sudan’s People’s Liberal Party (PLP) has warned that the government under the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) could plunge the country into total collapse should the current economic crisis continue.
“In a statement issued Sunday, Peter Mayen Majongdit, said government must address the current fuel crisis and increases on commodity prices across the country.
“People should not keep silent while commodity prices continue in deeper crisis, if such a situation continue, PLP may stage peaceful street protests in the country,” he said.
Majongdit claimed government lacked necessary tools to address the crisis in the nation.
“The tolerance of South Sudanese is running out, life has become difficult and our people are suffering and government is just watching without any reasonable intention to address the cries because they lack both the will and plan to reduce suffering”, said the PLP leader.
He said increase in prices market and the fuel crisis across the nation could trigger protests, further accusing the SPLM and its government of allegedly failing to tackle the crisis.
“If we have a government of the people, the minister of petroleum should have been questioned by the parliament or resigned from duties”, stressed the opposition leader.
Ever since he burst into the young nation’s political scene, Majongdit has been advocating against human rights abuses and corruption, calling for unity in the country.
