Sudanese NCP official shows little excitement about his promotion

November 12, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – A veteran figure of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) appeared unmoved by his recent promotion to the membership of the NCP leadership bureau saying he was not consulted prior to the decision.

Amin Hassan Omer was one four figures who ascended to NCP leadership bureau through a decree issued on Monday night. He was bypassed in the last shuffle that occurred during 2014 NCP general convention.

“Had they consulted me, someone else would have been picked [in my place] but it seems that the party leadership had another point of view due to the existence of vacancies and therefore I cannot say anything,” Omer told Sudan news agency (SUNA).

The NCP official had publicly opposed re-nominating Bashir to run on the party ticket in the presidential elections of last April.

At the time he said the election of Bashir at the NCP General Convention was not free and fair and accused former Vice President Ali Osman Taha of improperly influencing members of the Shura Council to re-nominate Bashir.

On the opposition demand of a transitional government, Omer denounced the idea of seeking to replace an elected government calling it an un-objective demand. However he urged the NCP not to rush to a decision on the matter.

Nafie Ali Nafie, an NCP leading figure, has reiterated the statements of the NCP deputy chairman Ibrahim Mahmoud this week rejecting the proposal made by the People Congress Party (PCP) during the national dialogue on a transitional period.

Nafie described the opposition parties as disillusioned and empathized they will never be able to be in power.
