Head of S. Sudan’s constitutional review body passes on

December 1, 2015 (JUBA) – The chairman of South Sudan’s constitutional review commission, Akolda Meen Tier is dead, the Juba government announced on Tuesday.

Akolda, a renowned academic, was prior to his 2011 appointment a law professor at the University of Khartoum in Sudan. The cause of the death, however, remains unclear.

According to family sources, the deceased was found dead in his hotel room in Kampala, Uganda, from where he was connecting to Germany for further medical attention.

South Sudan government, in a statement broadcast by the state-owned SSTV said preparations to receive the late official’s body were underway. The office of the president has extended condolences to the family, describing Akolda’s death as “unfortunate”.
