President Kiir in S. Africa to attend China-Africa forum
December 3, 2015 (JUBA/PRETORIA) – South Sudanese president Salva Kiir is in Johannesburg, South Africa to attend a two-day forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which has attracted over 50 African heads of states.
The forum, now in its sixth year, was previously held in Beijing, China.
China’s vice foreign minister, Zhang Ming was quoted saying his government would roll out a raft of new measures to boost practical cooperation between China and Africa.
According to Xinhua, Zhang is optimistic the two-day summit, based on the theme, “Africa-China Progressing Together: Win-Win Cooperation for Common Development”, will comprehensively evaluate and strengthen ties between Africa and the Asian nation.
Zhang reportedly made these remarks at a gathering attended by senior officials from China and African countries ahead of forthcoming FOCAC summit in Johannesburg.
Addressing the opening of the session, the Chinese vice foreign minister said “fruitful achievement has been made between China and African countries since 2000 when the FOCAC was established under the initiative of China and African countries”.
During the meeting, officials reportedly mulled a declaration and an action plan aimed at consolidating China-Africa relations, expected to be adopted during the summit.
China and African nations face unprecedented opportunities in terms of boosting mutual development as the two sides embark on a new phase of development, said Zhang.
