December 5, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – Cattle raiders killed four people in the disputed area of Abyei following separate two attacks carried last Thursday, said the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

The unidentified cattle rustlers killed one person and wounded three others in an attack on a cattle camp in the center of Abyei town in the early morning of 3 December.

“UNISFA troops deployed in the area responded promptly and robustly, pursuing the criminals and recovering the cattle that were stolen”.

However, the fleeing gunmen attacked Miokol Alei village on the eastern part of Abyei town where they killed and two others wounded. One of the wounded later died at a hospital of Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) at Agok.

The UNISFA condemned the two attacks and announced the deployment of troops ” in strategic locations as part of the efforts to apprehend the criminals behind the incident while investigations continues”.

Sudan and South Sudan have failed to reach an agreement signed in 20 June 2011 providing to deploy a joint police force in the contested areas.

The two countries are unable to conduct a referendum to determine the fate of border area because they still diverge on who is eligible to participate vote.
