IDPs leader in the camp, Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed, told Sudan Tribune they had noted an increase in Intestinal flu among the camp residents, in particular among children and elders.

“Ever since the beginning of this wave of severe cold, we have been suffering from an acute shortages in blankets and plastic sheets to protect us from this stiff cold,’’ he said.

“Children, who constitute 60% of the 123000 camp’s population, are the most affected by the disease,’’ he complained.

Ahmed urged both national and international humanitarian groups to haste with winter requirements to the IDPs .

“The situation might become catastrophic if the state government and aid groups do not provide the IDPs with blankets and plastic sheets to protect them from cold,’’ he said.

‘This is a humanitarian case in which everybody should do his share,’’ he said.

Nyala’s six IDPs camps face a severe shortage in food supplies after the humanitarian organizations , particularly the UN World Food Programme (WFP), had reduced the food rations they used to distribute in the past.
