Unity state governor sacks two advisors
December 14, 2015 (BENTIU) – The caretaker governor of South Sudan’s Unity state, Joseph Nguen Monytuel has sacked two of his advisors and immediately replaced them.
In a gubernatorial order issued last week, Monytuel sacked Benjamin Majak, an advisor for local government and Mary Ngundeng for investments.
The two officials had served the state in their respective capacities for about two years.
Governor Monytuil immediately appointed Koang Badeng Chop and William Wien Maker as Unity state advisors on investment and local government respectively.
A spokesperson for the governor, Benson Mayen told Sudan Tribune the sacking of the duo was a normal rotation and had nothing to do with political differences.
“The decree is an effective as from 9th of December 2015, the two advisers took oath of office today [Monday] in the presence of the governor in Juba and have pledged to serve the people and government of Unity State with loyalty, diligence and devotion,” he said.
The governor, Mayen added, tasked the two newly-appointed advisers to take the lead in efforts to restore peace and unity among communities in Unity state.
However, a senior official of South Sudan’s ruling Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) told Sudan Tribune Majak’s dismissal allegedly followed his political differences with the current local government minister, Taker Riak Dong.
Allegations from the official, who preferred anonymity, could not be independently verified.
