Sudanese army says none of its soldiers recently killed in Yemen

December 14, 2105 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) denied the death or injury of any of its soldiers in a rocket attack in Yemen on Monday.

SAF’s spokesperson Ahmed Khalifa al-Shami told Sudan Tribune that what has been circulated on Houthi media outlets about the death and injury of Sudanese soldiers is nothing but“propaganda” intended to undermine the morale of the troops.

He acknowledged that a Katyusha rocket launched by the Houthi rebels targeted the Arab coalition troops in the area but there were no Sudanese soldiers there, mourning the death of two officers from Saudi Arabia and the UAE in the attack.

The rocket attack has targeted a military camp south west of the coastal city of Ta’ez.

Emirates News Agency (WAM) said that UAE Armed Forces serviceman, Sultan Mohammed Ali Al Ketbi, and the Saudi Arabia Armed Forces officer, Col. Abdullah bin Mohammed Alsahyan, have been killed early Monday during the course of their participation in the Saudi-led coalition’s Operation Restoring Hope to support the legitimate government in Yemen.

Earlier this month, SAF denied the killing of one of its soldiers in Yemen following statements by the spokesman of the popular resistance forces fighting to reinstate President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi, Ga’id Nasr, on which he said a Sudanese soldier was killed and two others were injured in the battle for Sheraiha areas between the towns of Lahaj and Ta’ez.

Last March, Sudan joined the Saudi-led military coalition against Houthi rebels who are accused by Riyadh of being a proxy to Iran in the region.

Some 850 Sudanese troops are already deployed in Yemen within the allied forces led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Sudan earlier pledged 6000 fighters to operate alongside the Saudi–led alliance.
